Mercedes-Benz launches a new S-Class, a top-end limousine in India. This is actually the seventh generation of its flagship limousine the S-Class in India. According to Mercedes, “Not only does the S-Class become much more intelligent, but it also takes the driving experience to an altogether new level.” As for the pricing, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-class is available in two variants, the 400d 4Matic which is priced at Rs 2.17 crore, whereas the S 450 4Matic which is priced at Rs 2.19 crore.

Martin Schwenk, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “We are thrilled to launch the flagship of our portfolio, the all-new S-Class in India. It has been one of the much-anticipated luxury cars in this market with unparalleled customer trust and loyalty. With each new generation, this flagship sets a new benchmark for the automotive industry. Holding the current title of the ‘World Luxury Car of the Year’, the new S-Class underscores our ambition of introducing to our discerning customers the most desirable products from our global portfolio; offering them innovation, safety, comfort and quality like never before. In the new S-Class, the entire focus remains on the individual, who is able to experience the luxury limousine with all their senses like never before.”

As for the exterior, it features Mercedes’ new ‘Digital Light’ LED headlights, a new chrome grille with three horizontal blades, a new front bumper with larger air intakes, pop-out door handles and wraparound LED tail-lights. There is a total of five colour options that include Design Diamond White, Onyx Black, Anthracite Blue, Rubellite Red and Emerald Green.

Moving to the insides, there is a new 12.8-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system which is accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. The screen is actually a newer OLED touchscreen that runs the latest Mercedes MBUX system (NTG7) and supports features like facial, voice and fingerprint recognition. It has got a lot of storage which is around 320GB and a lot of RAM too, as it comes with 16GB of RAM. It gets Burmester 4D surround sound system and massaging seats up front too.

For the powertrain, it is available in two engine options- petrol and diesel. The S 400d comes with the familiar OM656 in-line 6-cylinder, diesel engine that produces 330hp and a notable 700Nm of torque. Whereas the S 450 petrol engine is also an in-line 6-cylinder, turbocharged unit, that churns out 367hp and 500Nm. Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and a 9-speed automatic gearbox come standard on both variants.
