Audi Q7 has always been a very popular three-row luxury SUV in the Indian market. In fact, a few years ago, it was a Bollywood sensation as most of the superstars used to own it. The Q7 was discontinued in India in early 2020, thanks to BS6 emission norms. But now, this luxury SUV is back and in a new avatar. 2022 Audi Q7 – Exterior and Colours

The new 2022 Audi Q7 Facelift gets a complete makeover and it now looks more sporty than its predecessor. The SUV gets Audi’s new grille with Matrix LED headlamps, LED DRLs, and LED taillamps. There are also new bumpers and 19-inch alloy wheels. In terms of colour options, the Audi Q7 Facelift is available in five colours. They are Carrara White, Mythos Black, Navarra Blue, Samurai Grey and Floret Silver.

In terms of features, the new 2022 Audi Q7 Facelift gets three big screens inside the cabin. The first one is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system while the other one is an 8.6-inch touchscreen for the climate control placed in the central console. It also gets Audi’s virtual cockpit. Some other features include a massive panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, adjustable ambient lighting, Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system, etc.

Moreover, this powertrain boasts of a 48V mild-hybrid system that enables the engine to be turned off for up to 40 seconds while coasting.

The new 2022 Audi Q7 Facelift has been launched in India in two variants. They are Premium Plus and Technology with prices ranging between Rs 79.99 lakh – Rs 88.33 lakh, ex-showroom.

2022 Yamaha FZ 25 First Look

The Yamaha FZ 25 is a popular quarter-litre motorcycle in the Indian market. In 2020, the Japanese two-wheeler maker updated it thoroughly and launched its BS6 compliant iteration. The Yamaha FZ 25 is a good looking motorcycle. It features an aggressive and sporty design with attractive colour schemes. The front fascia of the motorcycle features an LED projector headlamp which is one of its biggest USPs. Talking about colour shades on offer, the new Yamaha FZ 25 is available in three different colours, namely Moto GP Edition, Metallic Black, and Racing Blue. 

Engine and Gearbox

The 2022 Yamaha FZ 25 is powered by a BS6 compliant 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, fuel-injected engine. This BS6 motor churns out 20.8 PS of maximum power at 8,000 RPM and 20.1 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 RPM. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Tyres, Brakes and Features

Talking about hardware, the new 2022 Yamaha FZ 25 gets telescopic forks at the front and a 7-step adjustable mono-shock absorber at the rear. CBS vs IBS vs SBT: What’s different?

Braking Systems: New Rules Explained

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, mandated that all new two-wheelers launched after April 1, 2018, will be equipped with ABS or CBS. From April 1, 2019, this came into effect for the entire two-wheeler industry. So, all two-wheelers below 125cc engine capacity now get CBS while that above 125cc is equipped with ABS. 

CBS vs IBS vs SBT: Here’s what’s different!

What is CBS?

CBS stands for Combined Braking System. It was first developed by Honda Two-wheelers and Honda is still a pioneer in using this tech. As we all know, the most effective way of braking is applying both the front and rear brakes simultaneously and that’s what CBS does. It applies some percentage of front brakes even when only the rear brake lever has been pulled, thereby improving the overall braking performance. 

What is IBS?

IBS stands for Integrated Braking System. This term was coined by India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp. The working principle of Hero MotoCorp’s IBS is completely similar to that of Honda Two-wheelers’ CBS. It’s just that the company formulated and implemented it as per its range of two-wheelers and coined a new term for marketing purposes. 

What is SBT?

Finally, we have SBT. The acronym SBT stands for Synchronised Braking Technology. This tech for two-wheelers has been developed by TVS Motor Company. The working principle of the SBT is again similar to that of Honda Two-wheelers’ CBS. In a nutshell, all these technologies work on the same principle and while some auto companies prefer to use this term as Honda’s CBS, others have coined new terms to differentiate themselves from the rest of OEMs.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, mandated that all new two-wheelers launched after April 1, 2018, will be equipped with ABS or CBS. However, from April 1, 2019, this came into effect for the entire two-wheeler industry. Now, all two-wheelers below 125cc engine capacity get CBS while that above 125cc is equipped with ABS. What is CBS?

The most effective way of braking is applying both the front and rear brakes simultaneously and that’s what CBS does. It applies some percentage of front brakes even when only the rear brake lever has been pulled, thereby improving the overall braking performance. 

What is ABS?

ABS stands for Anti-lock Braking System. It is a more advanced technology than CBS and so is found on two-wheelers above 125cc in India. What ABS does is that it doesn’t let the wheels lock up even in harsh braking scenarios, thereby avoiding unintentional slides on wet or slippery surfaces and improving the overall safety net. There are two types of ABS available for two-wheelers, namely single-channel and dual-channel versions. 

CBS vs ABS: Which one is safer?

Finally, the main question arises, CBS vs ABS, which one is better in real-life scenarios? So, ABS or Anti-lock Braking System is hands down much better than CBS and so it is more expensive too. While CBS only helps in effective braking by applying both the brakes, ABS is much safer as it prevents the wheel from locking up in harsh braking scenarios. The Indian government took the right step towards improving road safety by mandating ABS and CBS for two-wheelers.

2022 Kia Carens First Look – The best of both worlds!

Kia has finally launched the all-new Carens ‘Recreational Vehicle’ in the Indian market. The prices of the new Kia Carens start in India at just Rs 8.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Kia has aggressively priced this people mover and so it locks horns against a host of cars in the sub Rs 20 lakh segment. Exterior and Colours

The new Kia Carens is unlike any other Kia car we have on sale in India. With the Carens, Kia has debuted its ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy in the country. While design choices are subjective, it does look good. In terms of colour options, there are eight colours to choose from. They are – Glacier White Pearl, Intense Red, Sparkling Silver, Moss Brown, Clear White, Aurora Black Pearl, Imperial Blue, and Gravity Gray. 

 

Interior and Features

Just like the flashy exterior, the Kia Carens has a snazzy interior too. In terms of features, it gets a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Kia’s connected car tech. It also sports an electric sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, etc. The Carens is also the only car in its segment to get safety features like six airbags as standard across all the variants. 

Engine and Transmission

Kia is offering the Carens with not just one or two but a total of three engine options. It gets a 115 hp 1.5-litre petrol motor, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox; a 140 hp 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DCT. Also, there is a 115 hp 1.5-litre diesel motor that is paired with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT.

Prices and Rivals

The new 2022 Kia Carens is available in five variants. They are – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. It has been priced in India between Rs 8.99 lakh – Rs 16.99 lakh, ex-showroom and an introductory offer. The bookings for the Kia Carens are already open. This people mover rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki XL6, Hyundai Alcazar, etc.

Several automakers will jumpstart the year 2022 with the launch of some exciting motorcycles this month. KTM and Triumph are all set to launch a bunch of new motorcycles in the Indian market in February and even Royal Enfield is expected to join the bandwagon. The biggest launch for the month of February will be the India launch of the new-generation KTM RC 390. The new 2022 KTM RC 390 will be launched very soon and it will be the first motorcycle in its segment to get an adjustable suspension from WP Apex. Powering the motorcycle will be a 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that churns out 43 PS of power and 37 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Royal Enfield Scram 411

Royal Enfield is gearing up for one of its biggest launches of 2022. The company will soon launch the Royal Enfield Scram 411 in India. The Royal Enfield Scram 411 will be a more road-going version of the off-road-oriented Himalayan. It will get a 411cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected motor that will churn out nearly 24 PS of power and 32 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be coupled to a 5-speed gearbox.

KTM 390 Adventure

KTM is expected to launch not one but two new motorcycles in India this month. While the first one will be the new-gen RC 390, the Austrian bikemaker will also introduce the updated 390 Adventure which will get some new colours and features. The new KTM 390 Adventure will be powered by a 373.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that churns out 43 PS of power and 37 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

 

Triumph Tiger Sport 660

The last motorcycle on this list is the Triumph Tiger Sport 660. The Triumph Tiger Sport 660 will be getting a 660cc, liquid-cooled, inline-three cylinder engine. This motor churns out 81 PS of maximum power at 10,250 RPM and 64 Nm of peak torque at 6,250 RPM. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Bookings for the Tiger Sport 660 are already open in India.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift

Maruti Suzuki is all set to give a major update to its best-selling premium hatchback, Baleno. The new 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Facelift will be launched in India very soon. The official pre-bookings for the same are now open and you can book it for Rs 11,000. The new 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno will get several cosmetic changes and new features, including a first in the segment, head-up display. However, its engine options are expected to remain unchanged.  

Kia Carens

Kia is a very successful carmaker in India. The company will launch the new Kia Carens in the country on February 15, 2022. It will be offered with three engine options, a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.4-litre turbo petrol. The transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed torque-converter AT, and a 7-speed DCT. Kia claims that the Carens will be one of the safest cars in its segment and it will get six airbags as standard across the range. 

MG ZS EV Facelift

Finally, we have the upcoming MG ZS EV Facelift. It will be launched in India this month. The new ZS EV will get cosmetic updates, new features (including ADAS) and a new powertrain. The MG ZS EV Facelift is likely to get a 51kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering a range of up to 480 km on a single charge. The electric motor of the car is expected to remain unchanged and the current model develops 143 PS and 353 Nm.

Skoda Slavia

Skoda has announced that the all-new Skoda Slavia will be launched in India on 28th February. While the prices of its 1.0-litre TSI variants will be revealed on February 28, the 1.5-litre TSI variants will be launched on March 3, 2022. It will be offered with two engine options, a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol. Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and they will also get a 6-speed AT and a 7-speed DSG respectively.
