2022 Kia Carens Pros and Cons Explained

Kia India has recently launched the all-new Kia Carens in the Indian market. The Kia Carens is a three-row people mover with some SUV-like design cues but Kia likes to call it a ‘Recreational Vehicle’. 2022 Kia Carens Pros and Cons Explained 

PROS:

Aggressive Pricing: The new 2022 Kia Carens is available in five variants. They are – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. It has been priced in India between Rs 8.99 lakh – Rs 16.99 lakh, ex-showroom as an introductory offer, and these are very aggressive prices. 

Features and Space: Kia Carens is a spacious car and it offers good space inside the cabin. In terms of features, it gets a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Kia’s connected car tech. It also sports an electric sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, etc.  

Turbo Petrol Engine: The Kia Carens gets a powerful 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine that churns out 140 PS of power and 242 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DCT.

Safety Package: Kia is offering a host of safety features with the Carens. In fact, the Carens is the only car in its segment to get safety features like six airbags, ESC, all-wheel disc brakes as standard across all the variants. 

Kia’s Service Network: Though Kia is a new car brand in India, the company has a vast service network and is present in major cities and even in tier-II and tier-III cities of the country.

CONS

Weak Diesel Engine: The Kia Carens gets a 1.5-litre diesel motor that develops 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque, and these figures are weak for a 7-seater UV. The engine is paired with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT.

Unconventional Styling: With the Carens, Kia has debuted its ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy in the country. While design choices are subjective and it looks good to our eyes, people might find its unconventional styling to be a bit weird. 

Missing Features: The Kia Carens gets a host of safety features but misses out on some, which include a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, etc.

Unknown Safety Rating: While the Kia Carens gets a host of safety features, the safety rating of the car is unknown as of now. We hope it fares well in the Global NCAP crash test program.
