Honda City hybrid launch confirmed for mid-2022. This has been officially confirmed by Rajesh Goel, senior vice president and director, sales and marketing, Honda Cars India who upon being asked on by Autocar India said, “We will be launching the (City) hybrid in the next financial year,”

As for what we can expect from this new Honda City, while we don’t know about a lot of things this would offer it is expected to come with Honda’s i-MMD, the hybrid technology which is also used on the international-spec Honda CR-V hybrid and in the new-generation Honda Jazz sold abroad. Like the technology that powers the Honda Jazz e:HEV for international markets, the i-MMD hybrid setup in the new City is made up of two electric motors and an internal combustion engine. A 98hp, 127Nm, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder.

The engine can develop 109hp and 253Nm of torque and then it is sent to the front wheels via a bespoke gearbox with a single, fixed-gear ratio. It is said to come with three drive modes – one where just the electric motors are used, while one where just the internal combustion engine runs (a lock-up clutch sends power to the wheels directly), and there will also be a third one which would allow for a combination of both.

While for the expected pricing, this new Honda City is expected to be priced Rs 2-2.5 lakh expensive over the current selling petrol sedan. There is also a top-end variant of the new City hybrid expected, that could come in at the price of around Rs 20 lakh.

The newly launched iMT variant of the Seltos has also seen a lot of traction in less than four months of its launch.

Bicester Heritage-based creatives Ralle unveils a new Ferrari tracking car. It has been assembled in seven days, following a partnership with Talos Vehicles, according to the maker, this rig will enable the small team to capture unique shots and content, sharing the twists and turns of much-loved circuits in a never seen angle.

Skoda India expands its footprint in Delhi-NCR with two new dealerships

Skoda India expands its footprint in Delhi-NCR with two new dealerships. With this inauguration of the two new dealerships, the company now has a total of 12 touchpoints in C-NCR. According to Skoda, the state-of-the-art dealerships sport the new corporate identity and design as a part of ŠKODA AUTO’s global redesigning process. The Czech auto manufacturer, under the purview of the ‘INDIA 2.0’ project, plans to also expand their dealership network to 225 touchpoints by the end of 2022. The company is even planning to increase its network by an additional 6 touchpoints in the C-NCR by end of this year.

Tata Motors unveils its new Tigor EV for the personal segment

Tata Motors unveils its new Tigor EV for the personal segment. The company today has unveiled the EV avatar of its Electric Sedan in the signature Teal Blue colour. It is powered by its well-proven state-of-the-art high voltage electric architecture – Ziptron, and Tata says that the Tigor EV has been developed based on three pillars of Technology, Comfort and Safety. It comes packed with technology across its powertrain, infotainment, connectivity & charging and promises a comfortable, smooth, and relaxing drive. They have also said that the Tigor EV at select dealerships at INR 21000.

According to Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Head-Marketing, Passenger and Electric Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, “The last few years belonged to the early adopters of EV in India but now it is the time of early majority to move to EV. Furthermore, it has also got an IP 67 rated battery pack and motor to make it weather and worry-proof and comes with an 8 year and 160,000 KM battery and motor warranty. It is based on a proven platform with Rear Crash compatible structure and also complies with ODB 64 test standard. The new Tigor EV is compatible with a globally acceptable CCS2 charging protocol and can be fast-charged as well as slow charged from any 15 A plug point. It also offers 30+ connected car features including remote commands and remote diagnostics, so customers can be in touch with their EV through their phones.

Audi e-tron GT teased; could be launched in India soon

Audi e-tron GT teased; could be launched in India soon. The company has dropped the first teaser for its next offering and it is said to be arriving in just a few weeks. This will be the brand’s third electric offering, giving the carmaker the largest EV portfolio in the Indian luxury space. The car is built in Germany at the Audi Bollinger Hofe facility.

As for what we know so far, it is said to be offered in versions including Quattro and RS. These models were previewed as a concept at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. The coupe also gets Matrix LED headlights on the RS version, while Audi laser light is standard on both variants. The Audi e-Tron GT rides on 19-inch wheels that can be upsized to 21-inch alloys with aero blades. The electric offering comes with a drag coefficient of just 0.24 cd.

It also gets a large 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit console and 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen display as standard. The system supports natural voice commands and Audi Connect services. The MMI navigation plus comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard offering intelligent navigation with e-Tron specific functions. It will also get an e-Tron route planner for calculating the fastest route with the shortest possible charging stops at powerful DC charging points.

While for the powertrain, according to reports the electric motors used can produce up to 350 kW or 469 bhp, and 630 Nm of peak torque on the standard e-Tron GT. While the RS e-Tron GT gets an output of 440 kW (590 bhp) and 830 Nm of peak torque. It also comes with launch control and gets a boost output of 523 bhp and 637 bhp respectively for a maximum of 2.5 seconds. The e-Tron GT Quattro goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 245 kmph, while the RS does the same in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph.

MG introduces Astor SUV with a Personal AI Assistant and Autonomous Level 2 Tech. According to MG, they are aiming it to further developed its auto-tech focus by building on the concept of Car-as-a-Platform (CAAP) of possibilities and services.

They have also been said working on technologies like Artificial Intelligence to enable the development and application of services and subscriptions to support the ‘on-demand in-car’ needs of the customers. Astor is the first car to get a personal AI assistant in the company’s global portfolio. They claim that the personal AI assistant is designed by the acclaimed American firm ‘Star Design’. It depicts human-like emotions & voices and can give detailed information on every topic through Wikipedia. It will engage with people in the car and is powered by i-Smart Hub. 

Furthermore, the Autonomous Level 2 MG Astor is said to be powered by mid-range radars and a multi-purpose camera that can realize a series of advanced driver-assistance systems. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Headlamp Control (IHC), Rear Drive Assist (RDA) and Speed Assist System amongst others. According to the claims, these functions can significantly improve driving safety and comfort, and they have been further optimized for Indian traffic conditions.

Tata Motors delivers 10 Nexon EVs to the Government of Gujarat. According to Tata, the handover ceremony took place in the presence of Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta (Additional Chief Secretary (Industries & Mines Deptt) & MD Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam, GOG.) on India’s 74th Independence Day. The delivery of the 10 units of the Nexon EV is symbolic of the Government’s celebration of a clean state and their commitment to a cleaner environment.

Tata Motors also says that they have been playing a leading role in proactively driving the adoption of electric mobility in the country. The company is closely working with other Tata Group companies including Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Auto Components, Tata Motors Finance and Croma, to contribute to the faster adoption of EVs in India through its EV ecosystem called the “Tata uniEVerse”.

Furthermore, they also said to be consistently catered to the evolving needs of customers for electric cars with the introduction of best-selling products, which is best exemplified by the Nexon EV; the electric UV holds a commanding market share of nearly 70% in the rapidly growing market for EVs. With more than 6000 Nexon EVs plying on Indian roads currently, the model has been widely appreciated by customers and the industry alike.

As for the EV itself, it is equipped with a 129 PS permanent-magnet AC motor, powered by a high capacity 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The EV comes with a dust and waterproof battery pack, which meets IP67 standards. Furthermore, it offers 35 Mobile Apps based connected features, ranging from remote commands, vehicle tracking to driving behavior analytics, navigation, and remote diagnostics.

Ola Electric Scooter S1 and S1 Pro launched; starts at Rs 99,999 in India

Ola Electric Scooter S1 and S1 Pro launched; starts at Rs 99,999 in India. The launch for the scooter was being confirmed earlier this month and the brand has finally launched its first electric scooter in India on the auspicious occasion of the country’s 75th Independence Day. Currently, the scooter is available 2 variants which are the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro.

As for the scooter themselves, starting off we have the Ola Electric S1 Pro which is the higher-end model of the scooter. It comes with features like Voice Control, Cruise Control, and Hill Hold. Moreover, it has three dedicated modes to cater to different situations. They are called Normal, Sports, and Hyper mode too. Ola claims that the S1 Pro has a maximum performance of 8.5kW and 58Nm of maximum torque. Using this high-performance motor, the two-wheeler can go from 0-40kmph in just 3 seconds and 0-60kmph in 5 seconds. It can go up to a speed of 115kmph and has a range of 181 km.

Furthermore, there is a 3.97 kWh battery with fast charging support. By using a traditional home charging port, the Ola S1 Pro can be fully charged in 6 hours and 30 minutes. It also gets a special vehicle control unit that features an octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and high-speed connectivity options such as 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. Plus, it has a proximity lock/unlocks system, reverses park assists, a built-in navigation system, geo-fencing, a phone call, and message alert system, and an anti-theft alarm.

While for the regular Ola S1 Electric Scooter, it gets the same electric motor as the higher-end model that can deliver a maximum performance of 8.5kW and a maximum torque of 58Nm. It can go from 0-40kmph in 3.6 seconds and from 0-60kmph in 7 seconds according to the claims. But it gets short compared to the S1 Pro in terms of the battery as it has a smaller 2.98 kWh battery pack than the S1 Pro’s 3.97 kWh battery. The battery fully charges in 4 hours and 48 minutes using a traditional home charger.

As for the pricing, the Ola S1 and S1 Pro come with a starting price of Rs. 99,999 and Rs. 1,29,999, respectively. However, the company is offering the S1 series scooters at subsidized prices in different states of India.

Updated BMW iX3 received styling in line with standard X3

Updated BMW iX3 received with styling in line with standard X3. This is an all-electric car and has received an update a little over a year after its production-spec debut in 2020. It is said to make a public debut at the Munich auto show 2021, while the production is set to begin by end-September of this year.

As for the car itself, what’s new is now in line with its recently updated combustion-powered X3, it includes a larger front grille with a new mesh pattern (it’s still blanked-off),  slimmer headlight clusters, an expanded lower air intake, reshaped air curtains and a subtly overhauled rear end with new light and bumper designs. The updated iX3 also gets a sportier look than before with BMW offering the electric SUV with the M Sport cosmetic package as standard. Furthermore, the cabin too gets similar changes as on the updated X3, with blue highlights on the gear selector, start-stop button, and 12.3-inch digital dials.

While for the powertrain, there is the same 74kWh battery that provides up to 460km of WLTP range. It can be charged at speeds of up to 150kW, for an 80 percent top-up time in just 34 minutes. The brand claims that the engine that it comes with has 286hp and 400Nm of torque from its rear-mounted motor, the iX3 gets from 0-100kph in 6.8sec and on to a top speed of 180kph. As of now, there is no confirmed news about the Indian launch of the BMW iX3 whereas BMW is expected to announce the new BMW X3 facelift by the end of this year. The BMW also confirmed that the BMW X3 M40i will be primarily focused on performance.
