Canada has announced a Ban on Internal Combustion Engines

Canada has announced a Ban on Internal Combustion Engines. Along with that, they are also banning light-duty trucks by 2035 as part of their efforts to fight climate change. As the country joins a growing list of banning the fuel-guzzling vehicles, with Britain saying it will ban Internal Combustion Engines in vehicles by 2030, and Norway which is another country with extremely cold winters has also announced it will do the same as early as 2025.

While this is good news, we also have to see that in the cold weather the Battery on the Electric Vehicles isn’t great as the range of electric vehicles can go down by up to 40 per cent in Cold. Furthermore, at 20 degrees the average EV range fell by 12 per cent when the car’s heater was not turned on. However, by turning the heater on while driving, that range dropped by a massive 41 per cent. This could be because EVs use energy to heat the battery coolant to prevent it from freezing in cold weather, and even while heating the passenger cabin.

According to some reports, EVs would need to generate that heat elsewhere in cold temperatures, which is typically by using the battery thermal management system. Also, when an EV battery was charged at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), a DC fast charger could get a battery to an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes. While at 32 degrees the battery’s charge was 36 per cent lower after the same period.

While we don’t have a lot of information about this new 4ever by Renault, the brand has revealed some information. It is said that the new 4ever would use the same CMF-BEV small-car platform as the 5 and is likely to be a similar size. But the 5 is conceived as a sporty hatch, the 4ever is likely to take the form of a compact crossover. Both, the 5 and 4ever, are set to benefit from a new battery and electric motor technology being developed by the Renault Group. The maker claims that this new technology on the CMF-BEV platform will enable it to reduce the cost of the 5 by 33 per cent, which is actually when it is compared to the similarly-sized Renault Zoe.

As for the battery, we don’t have much info either but to give you a rough idea we have mentioned it too. Both the Renault 5 and MeganE will be produced along with the 4ever. Renault has also agreed to a partnership with Envision AESC to build a battery factory in Douai, which will open in 2024 with an annual output of 9GWh and a plan to expand to 24GWh by 2030.

Additionally, Renault would also be working with the French start-up Verkor to develop a new high-performance battery for larger models. Now that would be built in a separate new plant that will open with 10GWh capacity and have the potential to increase that to 20GWh by 2030. Upon further investigation, we found that the batteries used in Renault vehicles will be standardised around nickel, manganese and cobalt (NMW) chemistry.

The front headlights are modelled on the original design. The concept features wider rear-wheel arches and a red stripe livery that nods to the R5 Turbo hot hatch.

As for the technical details, it would use new powertrain technology and nickel, manganese and cobalt-based (NCM) batteries, which according to the claims, will help dramatically reduce the cost per kWh by 2030. The weight saving estimates convey into the lodge too, with broad utilization of carbon, including carbon-upheld sports seats, carbon entryway boards with lightweight entryway hooks, and even carbon-weaved floor mats instead of rugs.
